Elf Matte Lip Colour Review - Kylie Jenner Nudes

Saturday, 21 March 2015

I've been on the look out for a nude matte lip colour - ala Kylie Jenner - for some time now. I didn't fancy Kylie's preferred method of choice - having lip injections using 'Velvet Teddy' lip colour by Mac (mostly because I can't for the life of me find a store that has it in stock - but I digress) Having set my sights on the likes of Mac, Charlotte Tilbury and Tom Ford's offerings, I probably slightly overlooked the high street end of the market, assuming they would generally lack in pigmentation or staying power.

Whilst in L.A last week and during my customary trip to Target, I spotted an ELF cosmetics counter. ELF is a brand that blows me away with their range of reduciculously low priced cosmetics, and so far I have never been let down by the quality of their products. ELF Matte Lip Colour is certainly no exception! Yay!

I picked up the pretty self explanatory 'Nearly Nude' shade, and 'Natural' which I'd describe as a deeper rose pink, although still firmly in the 'nude' colour spectrum. I was hoping for highly pigmented matte colour, and neither of them disappoint on this front.

I wore the shade 'Natural' on my lips yesterday... This product isn't specifically marketed at being long wearing, but I can assure you it certainly is. I had applied it at lunch time around 12pm and then forgot that it was on my lips and went about my day. I returned home at around 4pm, and this honestly looked almost exactly the same as when I had first applied it. It had survived coffee drinking, banana eating, wind and rain. This staying power may be due to the slightly drying matte quality, but as long as I'm using a good lip balm in between its something that I can put up with for such long lasting and truly matte lip colour.

Another reason this gets a huge thumbs up from me is for the shape of the product itself. Housed in a twist up container, the angled chubby tip meant that I was actually able to line my lips effectively and then colour them in with the same product which gave a full but very natural effect, no injections nessesary...

At £3.95 a pop (or $3USD if your stateside - even more of a bargin) these are a great addition to your lip kit. I think they would be perfect if your just venturing into matte lip colour, or perhaps want to try out some really wareable natural shades without spending too much cash. I love them so much, I would actually pay much more for them, because once on the lips they are not dissimilar to a high end product.

Have you tried ELF matte lip colour? Any other shades I should try?
