Mimi Flys...Thailand, Phuket and Phi Phi

Sunday, 16 November 2014

As you may know, I recently got back from a two week holiday in Thailand. I had the most amazing time, it was so lovely to visit somewhere that I had never been before, and to do a little traveling around and exploring. I'm now back in a chilly London, frantically trying to keep my skin from peeling and waging a war against a suitcase full of dirty clothes. Still, the holiday was incredible and if writing a blog post about my travels keeps me from doing the washing, so be it :)

After a snooze inducing and totally bum numbing 17 hour journey from London-Hong Kong-Thailand, we finally started our Holiday at the Twin Palms Hotel, Phuket.

We were greeted with champagne and bracelets made of beautiful jasmine flowers

The hotel was beautifully laid out, with bungalows scattered around a lagoon pool which stretched throughout the hotel. Some rooms had private access to the pool straight from your terrace, which is what we opted for. It was amazing being able to wake up in the morning, slide open the doors and step straight out into the water!

I spent most of the time laying by the pool, enjoying traditional Thai massages and generally being very lazy. I finished the book 'Gone Girl' in a matter of days (if you haven't read it, do so now!) But It wasn't all cocktail drinking and lounging around. One day we managed to tear ourselves away from the comfort of our sun loungers and went elephant trekking, white water rafting and snorkelled in the sea, which was incredible.

The hotel were very sweet, filling the bath with petals and leaving fresh flowers in our room

Sundowners at one of the many beach clubs on Surin Beach

I would recommend the hotel to anybody visiting Phuket. I really liked the open architecture, with the winding pools and gardens, it was a very tranquil setting. The hotel was smaller than most resorts, and so it managed to maintain a very personalised, boutique feel. We were asked each day how we would like our room scented (seriously - and in case your wondering, we chose lemongrass) what fresh flowers we would like, and we were even given a pillow menu. I felt like I was at a spa for the entire holiday! It was totally chilled.

On board the boat over to Phi Phi island, rocking seriously crazy hair (it was windy)

The view as we arrived at phi phi

After our time in Phuket, we traveled over to Phi Phi island by Ferry, and then took a speedboat to the Outrigger resort, where we stayed for two nights. This was my favourite part of the holiday. Phi Phi is totally how I imagined Thailand to look, totally crystal clear turquoise water that was warmer than a bath, tropical climates and beautiful secluded beaches. It was impossible to take a bad picture of the island, it was so picturesque. We stayed in a beach front villa, waking up every morning to the sound of the sea.

I didn't ever want to leave, and I'd love to spend a little longer on Phi Phi island in the future. At the end of our Thailand adventure, we travelled back to Hong Kong where we spent 4 more nights before returning home to London. Il be posting about what I got up to in Hong Kong shortly, including a huge Sasa haul, full of Japanese and Korean beauty products, as well as an amazing giveaway, so keep your eyeballs peeled for that!

Have you ever visited Thailand? What did you think?

Until next time,
